Help: E-mail - Netscape 4.5

Note Macintosh Netscape 4.5 looks exactly like the Windows version for the mail preferences. These screenshots are for Windows, but the same instructions will work for your Macintosh.

Click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.
Netscape Edit-Prefs

To access the mail setting click on the plus (+) next to the Mail & Newsgroups and it will give you a list of categories.

The first is Identity, as shown in the next graphic:
Netscape Ident

Enter your full name and email address into the proper fields.
Your email address is listed on your Internet Alaska setup sheet.

Then click on the Mail Servers category.
Netscape MailServers

  • Outgoing SMTP server should be set to mail.alaska.net.
  • Outgoing mail server username should be your username, or the first part of your email address.

Incoming mail must be edited by clicking on the mail server in the white box, and clicking Edit. (If there is no incoming mail server listed click Add).
Netscape Pop Properties

  • For server name enter pop.alaska.net.
  • Server type should be set to POP3 Server
  • Username should be the first part of your email address.

Click OK and you are ready to check your email!
